gullwing windows & drop down table
I finally bit the bullet and bought matching gullwing windows for the rear of the Defender, this is something I've wanted to do for a long time. When camping this is going to be a complete game changer.
My truck still had the original side windows fitted, which if you've owned a Defender you'll know are an absolute disaster for leaks. I tried sealing them up multiple times but they always found a way to let water in. It was a relief to finally pull them out. They were easy to remove, just drill out the rivets and they came straight off.
The new gullwing windows drop straight into the same hole. When ordering from Explore Glazing there are two radius options depending on your model year.. You then use the new window as a template to mark and drill the new bolt holes, apply sealant to the flange and bolt it all together. Straightforward job.
I also bought a drop-down table for the left hand side, which will sit underneath the awning as an extra surface for cooking and food prep. Slightly more involved to fit, a fair bit of tapping holes and working out hinge positions. It bolts directly into the gullwing window frame so no extra holes drilled into the body.
This upgrade has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for the camping setup. Next up is a full custom storage solution for the rear, including two drawers and two side lockers accessible from the gullwing windows. Stay tuned.
